Sector performance
Financial services M&A surged in 2024, particularly in
banking, wealth and asset management, and payments. The
drive for greater scale, cost efficiencies, and synergies —
combined with rising technology expenses and rapid digital
transformation — fueled much of the activity.
In the banking subsector, consolidation efforts gained
momentum in Europe and the United States, with most deals
remaining domestic due to regulatory constraints. M&A and
joint ventures in wealth and asset management continued to
grow, reflecting an increased focus on private markets.
