BT-REQ-4413 EU-UK Renewables thought leadership V1 RL V6 (2) - Flipbook - Page 5
Political recalibration in the EU and UK
Changing political winds in the EU and UK are
injecting additional uncertainty into long-term
planning for renewable projects, which often rely
on government support and can take years to come
online. The EU is adjusting some aspects of its
aggressive net-zero plan amid tension over energy
costs, Chinese imports, and U.S. tariffs. The UK is
experiencing similar pushback over the government’s
climate-change policies.
These developments come as many corporations are
curtailing ESG and sustainability initiatives, with EU
regulators recently moving to scale back corporate
sustainability laws due to pressure from member
states and trading partners over cost and competition
concerns.
Investors and developers that treat supply-chain
diligence, trade compliance, and national security
considerations as core project fundamentals will be
best positioned to navigate regulatory scrutiny and
keep projects on track in the tumultuous years ahead.

How can we help
Our team combines hands-on transactional
experience with deep market insight to guide
clients through the evolving regulatory and
commercial landscape of the renewable energy
sector across the UK and Europe. We help
clients anticipate and manage risks arising
from changing trade regimes, supply-chain
requirements, and foreign investment controls.
We advise on the structuring of project
and supply-chain contracts to address
vulnerabilities, ring-fencing obligations, and
the allocation of compliance risk, drawing on
experience gained from landmark transactions
across the region. Our advice is practical and
forward-looking, enabling clients to identify and
respond to changes in UK and EU regulatory
frameworks before they affect project delivery.
Our objective is to help you develop, finance, and
operate renewable energy projects that remain
resilient and commercially successful, even as
regulatory and political conditions continue to
evolve across the UK and Europe.
