Consumer protection and the Digital
Markets, Competition and Consumers Act
A panel formed of partner Chris Hutton, senior associate Jennifer Crust and associate Micaela Bostrom, all from
our Global Regulatory practice, outlined the upcoming changes to the UK9s consumer protection regime
triggered by the Digital Markets, Competition and Consumers Act 2024.
The session began with an overview of the key changes to consumer protection law, with Jennifer explaining
the new rules addressing drip pricing and fake reviews (which are coming into force in April 2025), and the
provisions specifically regulating subscriptions (which are expected to come into force next Spring). Jennifer
also touched on the practical complexities of the new rules, and highlighted that guidance so far has been
lacking (making early compliance a difficult task).
