In this session, we reflected on ESG regulatory changes, including prospective changes, covering the United
Kingdom and the European Union.
In relation to the UK, we covered the UK Sustainability Disclosure Requirements (SDR) and upcoming
changes to UK ESG regulation, such as the anticipated UK consultation in Q1 2025 about endorsement of
the IFRS sustainability standards (S1 and S2) and transition plans.
In the EU, competitiveness and growth are high on the European agenda. A number of simplification
packages have been proposed to cut red tape and reduce bureaucracy in the EU.
We set out the European Commission9s proposals in the omnibus simplification package on sustainability
reporting and due diligence published on 26 February 2025 affecting the Corporate Sustainability Reporting
Directive and the Corporate Sustainability Due Diligence Directive (CS3D) amongst others. We note that
these are proposals and any new legislation would need to be negotiated and adopted by the Council and
the Parliament before it can enter into force. Read more here for more detailed insights on the proposals
and next steps.
We finished off with an in-depth update on EU supply chain compliance, considering how CS3D, the
European Deforestation Regulation and the European Battery Regulation will affect companies and their
supply chains.
